IMPORTANT LOT OF THREE PENNSYLVANIA FRAKTURS FROM THE SHUMAKER FAMILY. The three frakturs have been laid down on the first three pages of the Shumaker family’s “Johnson’s Family Atlas”. Fraktur #1) 15” x 12-1/2”, watercolor pen and ink on paper, the document in German and dated December 29, 1788 and being the birth letter of Simon Schumacher. The other names listed Wilhelm Schumacher, Catharina Lang, Simon Lang and Catharina Scharolisin. There are several lines of text encompassed within a wreath with bow tie. A large title:“Hier mein Gott da find (Given unto God)” with six lines below. All the text surrounded by linked tulip and leaf border ending in a full red open flower. The top having a central urn flanked by potted blue flowers and columns with urns of flowers. Two triangles are seen in their midst, one with as “S” another with “SM.” Possibly the work of Georg Burger. CONDITION: Vibrant colors, and clear writing. Glued down to paper page showing evidence of some open tears, edge roughness, folds, and creases. Fraktur #2) 15-1/4” x 12-1/2”, watercolor pen and ink on paper, the document in German and dated March 17, 1822 and being the birth letter of Georg Schumacher. The date and birth record being encompassed in a wreath with bowtie above which is written “West Moreland County South Huntingdon Township Nord Amerika Pennsylvania.” Below the wreath in large letters “Weil ich nunge” below which are four lines of text. Text all surrounded by linked tulips ending in a blossomed colorful flower, there are two red ovals, one on each side, one with “G” and one with “S”. The top having a central urn flanked by potted red flowers and columns with urns of flowers. Possibly the work of Georg Burger. CONDITION: Vibrant colors, and clear writing. Glued down to paper page showing evidence of some open tears, edge roughness, folds, and creases. Fraktur #3) 12-1/2” x 15-1/2”, outstanding watercolor pen and ink on paper birth letter for Anna Maria Brauim (?), dated October 21, 1792. With various lines of text encompassed within a heart flanked by angels, birds, and colorful tulips on the upper half and fanciful doves, flowers, birds, and flower vines on the bottom half. Possibly the work of “Diamond Band Artist” or George Carl Stocks. CONDITION: Vibrant colors, and clear writing. Glued down to paper page showing evidence of some open tears, edge roughness, folds, and creases. NOTE: The three frakturs are contained in the first three pages of the atlas which is complete and an important atlas on its own. BOOK CONDITION: The binding is split and as is, the front having a Geo. Shumaker period label. 9-73810 FP (15,000-25,000)
