SMITH & WESSON MARTIALLY MARKED 1ST MODEL AMERICAN LARGE FRAME REVOLVER. Cal. 44. American. Usual configuration with 8” keyhole ribbed bbl, stamped “US” on the top, but does not appear on the list of 1,000. Smooth 2-pc walnut grips and has been severely cleaned, a replacement front sight blade. SN 696. CONDITION: Fair as cleaned and polished with scattered fine pitting, grips are numbered 1303. Cylinder appears to be a replacement as it has the assembly number “X4” which does not match the frame assembly number, neither do the numbers on the bbl and the latch match.
