RARE CASED ROBBINS & LAWRENCE PEPPERBOX PISTOL. Cal. 28. SN 2620. Pocket size pepperbox with 5-shot fluted bbl cluster, internal hammer with top latch which releases the bbls downward for capping. The bbls unscrew for loading. It has beautiful smooth rosewood 2-pc grips and the receiver and rear of the bbl are beautifully engraved with about 60-70% fine foliate arabesque patterns with extremely fine punch dot background. The top rear of the frame has a spectacular flying American eagle. The side flats are engraved in fine detail with a woodland scene on the left side and a hunter shooting in a field scene on the right side. Its original walnut casing with brass hinges and mortised brass lock with brass shield escutcheon accompany it. It has dark maroon velvet lining with compartments for the pistol, the original “Robbins & Lawrence” marked bag flask, marked on one side, an iron 2-cavity mold with screwdriver legs, an original bbl wrench/wiping rod and a tiny Shaker box containing eight caps. CONDITION: Pistol is extremely fine with the bbls retaining about 95% strong original brown. Frame retains 25-30% original blue with the balance having flaked, not worn, to a light patina. Grips are spectacular and retain virtually all of their fine original finish. Case is fine with light scratches on the lid and edges with some light pry marks on the front. Lid lining is severely faded with the bottom lightly soiled and slightly faded. Flask is near new, as is the mold. Tool is also near new and retains most of its original muted case colors. All in all a wonderful set. 4-52008 JR685 (4,000-7,000)
