SMITH & WESSON #3 NEW MODEL REVOLVER W/RACK & GEAR EXTRACTOR. Cal. 44 Russian. Blued finish, rare 4-1/2” keyhole ribbed bbl and the rare feature of the rack and gear extracting system instead of later pawl system. Bbl address is without patent dates. Fitted with replacement 2-pc deep medallion ivory grips artificially aged to look old. Shipped February 18, 1880 and the invoice listed a 5-1/2” bbl. SN 13448. CONDITION: Very good. Retains about 80-85% strong bright original blue with some slight discoloration and light scattered rust. Cylinder has strong blue in the flutes with the outside being a medium patina. All matching except the grips which are unnumbered. Worn dark bore, mechanics are fine. 4-47948 JR40 (Anderson Collection) (1,500-2,500)
