TWO SMALL POWDER HORNS, ONE NICELY SCRIMSHAWED. Two small cows’ horns. 1) About 7-3/4” long, oval shaped at base end with a domed base plug secured with wooden pegs. It has a faceted spout end with fluted collar and rnd knob with wooden plug. Body of horn is extremely well scrimmed and carved with full coverage geometric patterns of all sizes & shapes. It appears that the person had a tool of some sort to outline the patterns before they were carved into surface. It appears that a name may have been removed from a ribbon near base end. CONDITION: Fine. Retains a mellow patina with a few scattered small bug damages. 2) About 8-3/4” long, light yellowish green to green to brown colors. Plain horn with domed wooden plug. Damage to spout end with a bug hole on side. 4-60233 JR490 (600-1,000)
