SCARCE SMITH & WESSON NEW MODEL #3 LARGE FRAME REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Russian. Blued finish, rare 5” keyhole ribbed bbl with 2-line address, pinned steel half moon front sight and fitted with 2-pc monogrammed hard rubber grips. Shipped to the U.S. Government June 27, 1890. Refinished in blue in August 1912. Serial number is followed by a star indicating factory refinish. SN 26181. CONDITION: Fine, all matching except the grips whose number is indecipherable. Revolver overall retains 92-93% strong bright blue with light muzzle wear, edge wear and a line around the cylinder. There are a couple of spots of light rust on the bbl and the backstrap is flaked. Hammer and trigger guard retains about 50% fade case colors. Brilliant shiny bore with minor rust spots. Strong grips that show moderate wear and show fine rust.
