SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1808 FLINTLOCK MUSKET.

SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1808 FLINTLOCK MUSKET. CAL. 69. 44-1/2” rnd bbl. Marked with a script “US” over an eagle and a downward bending “SPRINGFIELD” underneath. Dated 1811 at the tail of the lockplate. The lock is original but the bbl has been filed slightly for fit. The main spring is broken and has a liner, which is too weak for proper sparking. It is also dated 1811 on the buttplate. CONDITION: Bbl has been cleaned but moderate pitting remains. Very heavy pitting on the lock, partially obscuring the markings. Sling swivels are missing. Minor slivers missing from the forearm and some cracks in the lock area. Wood has been lightly cleaned. 4-52660 FS176 (1,500-2,500)
