AARON BURR (1756-1836) SIGNED LETTER. Political leader, Vice President. 8” x 10” signed letter, Philadelphia, February 10, 1794 to Melanethon Smith, with a signed free frank on the reverse side. “…Governor Robinson of Vermont has gone ___.”. Smith served in the Continental Congress. After the Revolutionary War, in which he served with distinction as a field officer, Burr took up the practice of law in new York City and entered politics, serving as a member of the New York State assembly, Attorney General of New York and United States Senator. In the presidential election of 1800, he received the same number of electoral votes as Thomas Jefferson, but the tie was broken in the House of Representatives in Jefferson’s favor and Burr became Vice President. Four years later, on July 11, 1804, in the historic duel at Weehawken, New Jersey, Burr mortally wounded his professional rival and political enemy, Alexander Hamilton. 9-71977 (800-1,200)
