AMERICAN SACK-BACK WINDSOR ARMCHAIR IN BLACK PAINT. Late 18th century. The bowed crest rail over seven splayed spindles joined to the medial rail, continuing to flattened arms above the shaped saddle seat, raised on four baluster-turned splayed legs with a swelled H-stretcher. Older black crackled surface over original red surface. SIZE: 36″ h. of back. 16-1/2″ h. of seat. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Chad Richards, Camden, Maine. CONDITION: Structurally good, relatively untouched, with small old “check” split proper right arm. Crest rail with old split at joint of second spindle proper right rear. Indecipherable brand on third spindle from left facing between crest rail and mid-rail. 9-94699 (1,500-2,000)
