WATERS MODEL 1816 FLINTLOCK MUSKET. CAL. 69. 42” rnd bbl, marked “1822 / A.WATERS” upside down at the rear of the lockplate. The eagle over “US” in front of the hammer is very deeply struck. The date matches on the bbl tang. In addition to the military proof marks, this is also marked with two militia-issue marks “MLM.” And “N H”. The cartouche on the wood is visible but not readable. CONDITION: Traces of casehardening on the lockplate, otherwise mostly rust/brown patina with heavy rust on the buttplate. Wood has been cleaned at the buttplate but still has rust stains showing and some light cracks. Appears to be original flintlock. There are scratches from cleaning on the triggerguard. 4-52659 FS161 (2,000-3,500)
