RIFLED MUSKET WITH RICHMOND TYPE II LOCK. Cal. 58. NSN. 40” part oct bbl. Lockplate marked “C.S. / RICHMOND, VA.” in front of hammer with the date “1862” vertically at rear. Bbl is dated 1864. Bbl also has “V / P / eagle head” on left quarter flat and “A star” mark on left flat. “ESA” cartouche is visible on left flat of stock. There is some modification of wood in lockplate cavity. 18-1/2” socket bayonet is marked “C & CO” on left side of socket. Leather sling is carved “LIZE PSC 5TH USI”. CONDITION: Considerable armory bright shows on bbl, mixed with surface rust and light pitting. Stock has several scratches. Coating of varnish has age cracking. Bayonet matches condition of bbl.
