ALEXANDER HAMILTON (1755-1804) AUTOGRAPHED LETTER. Soldier and Statesman. 6-3/4” x 8-1/4” autographed letter signed “Alex Hamilton,” Head Quarters, White Plains, September 3, 1778 to W. Pettit. “…Two things I am charged by the General to write to you upon – One is to prevent any more wood being cut on Wm. Jays farm – Another is, to begin to cast about for providing materials for building Winter Quarters in case we should be obliged to winter in this part of the country…”. Hamilton commanded artillery troops in several important battles and from 1777 to 1781, he served as aide-de-camp to General George Washington.
