WILLIAM EDWARD NORTON (American, 1843-1916) “GREAT YARMOUTH QUAY NO. 1”. Outstanding large oil on canvas harbor scene shows a line of moored two-mast fishing boats next to a dock and market area. A large crowd of people is shown including a wagon with horse, baskets of catch, two dogs, and a child at edge of water talking to two men in a rowboat. A large building is seen beyond the people with many sailboat masts. Left side shows the open water harbor with a steamship, tall sailing vessels and city beyond. Signed lower right. Housed in a replaced gilt molded wood frame. Stretcher has a period label with title and artist name with London address. PROVENANCE: From a west coast collection. SIZE: 34” x 48”. CONDITION: Very good. Surface dirt, canvas needs tightening. 9-73891 FP (10,000-20,000)
