FINE BOSTON CHIPPENDALE FIGURED CARVED MAHOGANY OXBOW SLANT LID DESK, CIRCA 1780. The rectangular dove-tailed case with hinged sloping lid fitted with a stepped interior consisting of eight valanced cubby holes above four blocked drawers centering a shell carved blocked drawer flanked by engaged half column document drawers stepped back on three aligned drawers, the case fitted with four graduated reverse serpentine long drawers on a molded base raised on bold ball and talon feet with ogee brackets and scalloped returns centering a scallop shell carved lobed pendant. PROVENANCE: From the Sewall Estate, Bath, Maine. SIZE: 43-1/2” h x 39” case w x 21” d. CONDITION: With old surface and patina, early replaced brasses, and professional repairs to lid at hinges, lid escutcheon missing crest.
