SMITH & WESSON #3 AMERICAN 2ND MODEL REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Russian. Nickel finish, 8” keyhole ribbed bbl, engraved upside down on the left side with the mark of “Gastinne Renette” and “Paris” on the right side. Renette apparently re-chambered the cylinder to 44 Russian from the original 44 American and added target sights. Fitted with smooth 2-pc walnut grips which have stress cracks inside both. Renette also apparently drilled and tapped a hole at the top of the backstrap to attach a shoulder stock that is missing. SN 21843. CONDITION: Fine. Retains about 80% of the Renette re-nickel, the flaked and worn areas a dark patina. Grips retain 50-60% original varnish. Strong bright bore with scattered pitting. Hammer safety notch does not function. Action needs adjustment. 4-47934 JR30 (Anderson Collection) (1,500-2,500)
