WALTER LOFTHOUSE DEAN (American, 1854-1912) SCHOONERS IN A MISTY HARBOR. Large oil on canvas harbor scene shows two side by side schooners trailing small dories following a tugboat into a large harbor. Several boats are seen at rest and the harbor buildings are shrouded by fog. Signed lower left “Walter L. Dean”. Housed in its original gesso decorated gilt frame with wide gilt liner. Frame has a Bigelow & Jordan, Boston, MA label. Dean was born and worked in the Boston area and was an experienced sailor who cruised and painted extensively along the New England coast, particularly along Cape Ann, Massachusetts. SIZE: 18” x 24”.
