MAXFIELD FREDERICK PARRISH (American, 1870-1966) “INTERLUDE”. Unsigned oil over print of the classic Maxfield Parrish painting titled “Interlude”. The original mural was cemented to the wall over a stair landing at the Eastman Theater, Rochester, New York and was painted by Maxfield Parrish in 1922. It has also been referred to as “Music” and “The Lute Players”. The photographic work which prints were made was unsatisfactory due to the difficulty of getting a color photograph of the mural in place. A photographic print was sent to Maxfield Parrish who pasted it onto a piece of pulp board and repainted it in oils the way it should look. Parrish returned it to the printers who used it as a master from which to correct their color separation plates. They then returned it to him. The only parts which are not repainted are in the white areas. This information is found on the back pasted paper which is on Maxfield Parrish Windsor, Vermont stationary and has typed “Estate No. 123” and a pen inscription “Framed under glass 1977 by Maxfield Parrish”. SIGHT SIZE: 12-1/4” x 8-3/4”. CONDITION: Very good. Some spot inpainting. 5-71690 (25,000-50,000)
