ATTRIBUTED TO WILLIAM HOWARD YORKE (American, 1847-1921) SHIP PORTRAIT OF THE “CITY OF PARIS”. Outstanding unsigned large oil on canvas nautical scene shows the black hulled transition steamship having three-masts with sails up and central funnel with black smoke. Sailing right to left with twenty-two men aboard. The American flag flies at top of front mast and other flags fly off each of the other masts. A number of boats are seen including schooner and sailboats off stern, a single mast sailboat off bow leading through harbor with steamship and other sails. In foreground is buoy with seagulls on a choppy green ocean. Puffy white clouds in a blue sunlit sky. Housed in a fine gilt decorated wide frame with linen liner. PROVENANCE: Rankin Estate, Annapolis, Maryland. SIZE: 22-1/2” x 38”. CONDITION: Relined, very good. 9-29666 HP (10,000-20,000)
