SMITH & WESSON #3 RUSSIAN 2ND MODEL LARGE FRAME REVOLVER. Cal. 44RF. Commercial marked “Russian Model”, 7” keyhole ribbed bbl with pinned half moon steel front sight. Frame has had the center fire firing pin hole plugged and recoil shield cut for the rim fire hammer. Cylinder has bored through 44 Russian chambers. The small flat on the bottom of the ejector housing is stamped with a tiny “A”. Grip frame is factory cut for shoulder stock with two cuts in the backstrap and one on the butt and the lanyard and serial number are correspondingly offset. Fitted with smooth 2-pc walnut grips from another revolver (serial number 37200) with the right side bearing the outline of a “CW” cartouche. SN 37054. CONDITION: Fair to good. All matching except the grips, as noted, with the bbl, latch and cylinder bearing the frame assembly number. No original finish remains being an even gray patina with light surface rust. Grips are fine with much wear and a dark oil stained patina. Fine bright shiny bore with scattered light pits, fine mechanics. A scarce variation. 4-47996 JR81 (Anderson Collection) (1,750-2,750)
