ATTRIBUTED TO WILLIAM HOWARD YORKE (British, 1847-1921) PORTRAIT OF A THREE-MAST AMERICAN SHIP. Outstanding oil on canvas ship portrait shows the black hulled vessel sailing right to left in green white capped ocean. A number of smaller vessels are seen with a mountain coastal scene off bow. A series of colorful pennants are seen off masts and the American flag flies off stern. Eleven men are seen on deck. All under a light blue and pink/white and cloud sky. Unsigned. Housed in a fine gesso decorated period frame. Stretcher having an original label from “B. B. Powell Liverpool”. NOTE: Estate records indicate that there were attributions to William Gay Yorke (1817-1892) and Duncan McFarlan (1818-1865). PROVENANCE: Sewall Estate, Bath, Maine. SIZE: 24” x 36”.
