UNSIGNED (British, 19th Century) PORTRAIT OF AN EAST INDIAMEN FRIGATE. Oil on canvas nautical scene shows a single deck gunboat in full sail sailing right to left with a smaller single mast sailboat in front. Both fly British flags and are seen against a backdrop of white cliffs. Another smaller boat is seen in distance and a lone seagull is seen in the foreground. Housed in a birdseye maple period frame. The cardboard backing has a label from Geo. F. Of, Inc., New York. Also an old typed label “Property of Barbara I. Strout Given to her by C. C. Mullen from the Harper Cottage at Winter Harbor, Maine”. PROVENANCE: The J. Hollis Wyman Estate, Milbridge, Maine (State Senator and Wild Blueberry King). SIZE: 22” x 30”. CONDITION: Nine small patches to reverse, chipping to 2” around edges of right side. Some lifting, in need of restoration. Otherwise good. 9-29123 (1,500-2,500)
