NEW ENGLAND PAINT-DECORATED, COMB-BACK, ARROWBACK ROCKING ARMCHAIR. First quarter 19th century. Possibly from the state of Maine. Constructed of pine and maple with original yellow paint. The tablet crest with scrolling wreath and shaped step-down ears, above five feather-decorated concave arrow spindles joined to the conforming mid-crest, floral-decorated above four additional decorated splats, flanked by shaped armrests on raked turned supports, centering the scooped plank seat, raised on raked simulated bamboo cylindrical legs, joined by a box stretcher raised on rockers. SIZE: 42-3/4″ h. of back. CONDITION: Retains original paint and paint decorations with normal and acceptable wear to hand grips, back, and seat. Professional restoration re-attaching mid-crest to stiles onto proper right stile between crest and arm. Otherwise good condition with nice patina. 9-92818 (400-600)
