EARLY COLT MEDIUM FRAME LIGHTNING RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 1261. Standard grade rifle with 26” oct bbl, full magazine, German silver Rocky Mountain front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. Made without sliding breech cover. It has straight grain American walnut wood with checkered 2-pc forearm and straight stock with crescent buttplate. Made with safety in the front of the trigger guard bow. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl retains about 90% dull original blue, and the magazine tube 88-90% dull original blue, thin on the bottom. Receiver has a couple of nicks on the left side and overall retains 85-90% thin original blue. Tangs are blue/gray. Wood is sound with good checkering on the forearm, light nicks and handling marks on the buttstock, which retains most of an old restored finish. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with light to moderate pitting. 4-52574 JR314 (2,500-4,000)
