THIRD MODEL BROWN BESS DIGBY NOVA SCOTIA MILITIA CONVERSION MUSKET. Cal. 80. Fine early conversion with 39” round bbl, bayonet lug on the top at the muzzle. Lockplate is marked “TOWER” behind the hammer with the cypher of George III in front of the hammer. Conversion consists of a screwed in thimble with a hand-forged hammer that has a long nose and long spur. Wrist has a very old braided cord repair that had required the comb to be partly cut away. Left side of the comb was crudely whittled out to accommodate someone’s big fat face. Brass furniture with “S” shaped sideplate and brass buttplate. Left side of the comb at the heel is branded in 3/8” letters “14:B/DIGBY”. The rammer and sling loops are missing. The conversion was likely done by the Militia. CONDITION: Iron retains a heavy, crusty dark brown patina overall. Brass is extremely dark, nearly black. The rope wrist repair is obviously very old with polished surface. The wood, otherwise seems sound with an old dark patina. Mechanics are fine. 4-48931 JR712 (800-1,500)
