PAUL STORR SILVER SOUP TUREEN WITH COVER & LINER. London, 1816. Outstanding double handled footed oval tureen has a rim decorated with grape clusters arranged in a basket connected by trailing vines of leaves. The handles in naturalistic intertwined tree branch which continue with leaves and acorns decorating the ribbed body. The claw feet having leaf and flower bud decoration. The bottom having five hallmarks including the Paul Storr mark “P.S.”. Also, the number “865”. The two sides having an identical armorial crest of a shield with knights helmet atop and ribbon motto below “Sapere Aude”. The upper rim with impress mark “I”. The removable oval liner with two onslow type inside handles. Fully marked with the same date letter and maker. The outside having an engraved standing stag with arrow vertically through the body and a perched eagle. The cover having two sets of the same engraved stag and eagle. A removable handle attached with two nuts. The handle having a border of oak leaves and central oval with flower head. Also marked with maker’s mark. The slightly domed lid having a ribbed dome with shaped wide rim. The end of the inside rim impress marked “I”. WEIGHT: 164 tr. oz. SIZE: 9″ h x 16″ l (incl handles) x 10″ w. CONDITION: The liner has small dings, one corner with bottom dent and one small 1/2″ crease dent to base; The cover with two small pencil tip digs in top rim.
