COLT MEDIUM FRAME LIGHTNING SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 11846. British Agent marked carbine with 20-1/2” bbl, full magazine with English ramp front sight with caterpillar blade and an English style platinum line 2-leaf express sight. The bbl is marked on the top “Sighted by John Rigby & Co. 72 St. James Street, London.”. There are no British proofs visible on the bbl or receiver. It has straight grain American walnut wood with straight grip buttstock and carbine buttplate and the very scarce 2-pc rampant Colt embossed, checkered hard rubber forearm. It has a staple and ring in the left side of the receiver and a safety in the trigger bow. CONDITION: Metal retains a smooth even light brown patina, which is the remains of an old refinish, probably done at the time the sights were installed. Stock is sound and retains most of an old refinish. Forearm is fine with moderately worn checkering and is turning chocolate. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-52576 JR317 (2,500-4,000)
