UNUSUAL FAUX GRAIN SHELL-DECORATED DISPLAY CABINET. 2nd quarter 19th century. Of rectangular form with splashguard, fitted with a three-quarter sloping hinged lid with glass panel, opening to an interior of two graduated shelves and a well, all profusely decorated in a mosaic of shells, the shellwork comparable to that seen in sailors’ valentines of the period. Cabinet with molded plinth. SIZE: 15-1/2″ h. x 24-1/2″ w. x 12-1/2″ d.
