FINE EARLY INDIAN TRADE MUSKET. Cal. about 64. Fine early musket with 42” oct to round bbl with full-length uncapped stock secured with three pins, tiny blade front sight with a fixed rear sight, raised British style teardrop side panels and a raised teardrop panel around the upper tang. Sideplate is a 6-1/4” long heavy brass serpent and it has a large iron trigger guard with smooth finials. Lockplate is an American replacement. Buttplate is flat brass with a short round tang secured with four screws in the butt and one in the tang. CONDITION: Good. Bbl retains an even dark brown patina with light fine pitting, heavier and deeper near the breech end. Stock has a break with several small cracks through the action area. Otherwise, shows normal use and handling. Ramrod is a replacement and the wood retains most of an old refinish. Mechanics are fine. 4-48933 JR709 (2,000-3,000)
