COLT LARGE FRAME LIGHTNING RIFLE.

COLT LARGE FRAME LIGHTNING RIFLE. Cal. 45-85-285. SN 5166. Standard grade rifle with 28” rnd bbl, full magazine, ivory bead hunting front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. The wood is straight grain American walnut with checkered 2-pc forearm and straight stock with crescent buttplate. The upper tang shows evidence where a tang sight had been installed for years, now missing with the upper hole vacant and the longer screw through the wrist. CONDITION: Very good to fair. Bbl retains 65-70% original blue with the balance a mottled blue-brown. Magazine tube is mostly a blue-brown patina. Receiver retains 70-75% original blue under a coating of old dried oil and may clean better. It has several fine scratches and striation marks. Forearm has a hairline on the left side, otherwise the wood is sound showing moderate to heavy wear with a fine old hand rubbed patina. Good mechanics, bright shiny bore. 4-52598 JR337 (3,500-5,000)
