AMERICAN PAINT-DECORATED SEWING BOX. 1st quarter 19th century. This fine example with hinged rectangular lid, the sloping edges decorated with red scrolling vinery, centering a panel painted with a river and treed landscape with manor house. Opening to a compartmented tray fitted within a green paper-lined interior. The sides painted with scrolling strawberry vines, all within simulated inlaid borders. The box fitted with a pair of brass ring handles and suppressed ball feet. SIZE: 5″ h. x 9″ l. x 7-1/4″ d. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Chad Richards, Camden, Maine. CONDITION: Overall very fine original condition, showing normal wear to painted surfaces, with good dark patina. Minor and minimal losses to corner inlays. 9-94710 (1,000-2,000)
