RARE BLACK AMERICANA PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK. This interesting patchwork type needlework probably done by a young black girl in the 19th Century. Circa 1860’s. The pictures all depict things that may have been seen on a plantation. Scene depicts a black boy and girl jumping for joy with a caption “We’s Free”. The center red square has an open winged butterfly symbolizing freedom. Other pictures include chairs, deer, dog, basket of flowers, peace dove, cat, people and more. There are several groups of initials including “CLB”, “CAP”, “HI” and more. Housed in a flat light stained wood frame with black liner. SIGHT SIZE: 17” x 18”.
