SCARCE LARGE FRAME COLT LIGHTNING RIFLE. Cal. 50-95-EX. SN 1729. Standard grade rifle with 26” oct bbl, full magazine with homemade front sight blade and a semi-buckhorn rear sight. The wood is straight grain American walnut with checkered 2-pc forearm and straight stock with crescent buttplate. This rifle was left to Eldon in F. P. L. Mils’ will. The letter from Mills’ lawyer accompanies the lot. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains 92-94% strong bright original blue with light muzzle and edge wear and a few freckles of scattered light rust. Magazine tube retains mostly a plum-blue patina, thin toward the muzzle with some light rust. Receiver retains 75-80% thin original blue with a few scattered spots of light rust. Wood is sound with usual light dings and scratches and retains most of an old refinish. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with some light pitting in the grooves. 4-52596 JR335 (2,500-4,000)
