FOUR EXCEPTIONAL HAND-COLORED MAPS BY CYRUS A. FARWELL. Mid-19th century. Pen-and-ink hand-colored examples. The first, a double hemisphere world map, centered by a hand-drawn and colored cartouche in which is written “THE WORLD BY CYRUS FARWELL”. Accompanied by 3 smaller maps executed in the same manner: A) map of the United States as it existed at the time; B) map of North America; C) map of South America. Maps now mounted on foam core. SIZE: LARGEST MAP: 19″ x 46″. MAP A: 19-1/4″ x 23-3/4″. MAP B: 24″ x 19″. MAP C: 23-3/4″ x 19″. PROVENANCE: Cyrus Augustin Farwell, born Dorset, Vermont, 1832 (Partial biography accompanies this lot) by descent through the family. CONDITION: Overall extremely good condition.
