EARLY COLT MEDIUM FRAME LIGHTNING RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 421. Standard grade rifle with 26” oct bbl, full magazine, German silver Rocky Mountain front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. Made without sliding breech cover. It has straight grain American walnut wood with checkered 2-pc forearm and straight stock with crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus. Retains 96-98% strong bright original blue overall, glossy and high polished on the receiver. Top and bottom tangs and trigger guard extension are lightly flaked. Buttplate retains about 95% original finish, flaking to light patina on the toe. Wood is sound with crisp checkering on the forearm and raised grain finish on the buttstock with only very minor handling and storage marks.
