SCARCE MEDIUM FRAME COLT LIGHTNING BABY CARBINE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 63576. Rare lightweight carbine with 20-1/2” bbl, full magazine, Baker front sight and Colt reverse mounted carbine ladder rear sight. It has straight grain American walnut wood, checkered 2-pc forearm and straight stock with carbine buttplate. It has a staple and ring in the left side of the receiver and the bbl & receiver have Belgian proofs. Weight 5 lbs. 6.4 oz. This carbine is from the F. P. L. Mills collection, #4 on his inventory. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Bbl and magazine tube retain 95-97% strong bright original blue with a few scattered light nicks and scratches. Receiver retains 80-85% bright original blue with flaked areas on the top and both sides and a few light scratches. Wood is sound with a couple of small bruises at the buttplate and normal use & handling marks, retaining about 90% original finish.
