UNIDENTIFIED MILITIA MUSKET. NSN. Cal. 87. 40-1/4” rnd bbl. The lockplate is marked “BRIDGEWATER” in an arc above the number “8181”, obviously the date which was stamped incorrectly. The American eagle holding an oval containing the letters “US” is in front of the hammer. The lock is a reconversion using civilian parts. The brass furniture on the cherry stock is all brass and is of the style used on Massachusetts militia muskets. Rufus Perkins used the arched “BRIDGEWATER” marking on his U.S. contract muskets, and this may be one of his products. CONDITION: Brown patina overall with fresh rust around the rear of the bbl and on the lockplate for aging after reconversion. Brass furniture has a dark patina. There are some short cracks at the rear lockplate screw, but otherwise the stock is very good. Mechanically good. 4-58395 FS35 (2,000-3,000)
