JOHN THOMAS PEELE (American/British, 1822-1897) FAMILY INTRODUCTIONS. Outstanding oil on canvas family portrait shows a mother seated in a red upholstered chair with an infant in her arms wearing a long christening gown. A young girl stands beside presumably meeting the baby for the first time. A younger child is seen on a pattern rug floor looking at a picture book. An elaborate and colorful interior scene has a large portrait in the background of a woman, decorative wall covering and a red curtain which is held aside of a window showing a landscape. Signed left side “J. T. Peele 1847”. Housed in a fine reproduction gilt carved wood frame. Frame from the Guido Frame Studio, Boston. NOTE: Peele was in America from 1844-1852 and had a studio in New York City. SIZE: 34” x 27”. CONDITION: Relined, restored, inpainting. Very good. 9-71323 (15,000-20,000)
