VERY RARE CUTAWAY COLT LIGHTNING SMALL FRAME RIFLE. Cal. 22. SN 11986. Unusual cutaway with 8” stubby bbl with 1-pc incised border carved forearm and stub of a stock in the tang. The receiver is cutaway on both sides exposing the internal workings. This piece was apparently nickel-plated at one time, as the loading gate and swinging block and top tang are nickel-plated. The bbl has had two crude dovetails cut as though someone were attempting to install sights. It has a smooth bore and all the metal is in the white. CONDITION: Fine. Metal retains an even light gray metal patina with some pitting on the left side of the receiver. Swinging loading block, loading gate and top tang retain most of their original nickel-plating. Wood is nicked and dinged and shows heavy wear with a fine hairline running the length of the forearm and it has a repaired chip on the bottom.
