COLT BURGESS LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 2888. Standard rifle with 25-1/2” oct bbl, full magazine, German silver Rocky Mountain front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. It has straight grain American walnut wood with straight stock and crescent buttplate with trap containing a 4-pc Colt style brass and iron-wiping rod. The left wrist has been carved with a crude “8”. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl and magazine tube retain 93-95% original finish under a heavy coating of old dried oil with some light pimpled rust on the left flat and near the muzzle on the right side. Receiver retains about 90% dull blue turning plum on the top with a few small, scattered spots of light rust. Hammer screw is battered and a screw in the lower tang is a replacement. Lever is slightly sprung and difficult to latch. Forearm has a hairline over the loading gate and there is a chip missing by the top tang, otherwise the wood is sound and retains a fine hand rubbed patina. Mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bore. 4-52580 JR319 (4,000-8,000)
