SCARCE COLT BURGESS LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 2051. Scarce rifle with 25-1/2” rnd bbl, full magazine, silver bead front sight that may be a replacement, and semi-buckhorn, original rear sight. It has straight grain American walnut wood with straight stock and crescent buttplate with trap. This is one of only 1219 Burgess rifles made with rnd bbl. CONDITION: Good to very good. Bbl and magazine tube appear to have been cleaned a long time ago and now have an overall light patina, markings are still clear. Magazine tube is a dark plum/brown patina. Receiver retains about 50% thin blue on the left side and traces on the right side with the balance a dark patina with bright shiny blue in the sheltered areas. Bottom tang has a replaced screw and retains about 80% bright blue. Forend cap screw is broken. Wood is sound and retains most of an old amateur finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore with scattered fine pitting. 4-52572 JR312 (4,000-7,000)
