*EARLY SPORTERIZED SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 RIFLE. Cal. 30 (Appears to be 30-06). SN 83529. Unmarked conversion, possibly by Griffin & Howe, uses the orig military bbl with sleeve ramp front sight and a Lyman 57SME receiver sight with target knobs. The area on the stock below the receiver sight has an old cutout, apparently for another model of receiver sight. It is mounted in an exhibition quality shell & flame grain Claro walnut stock, uncheckered, with black forend tip, hard rubber grip cap and checkered Winchester style steel buttplate and has a straight comb with cheek piece. The left side of the receiver has four holes apparently for an old Griffin & Howe side mount with corresponding relieved area in the stock. CONDITION: Very fine. Metal retains most of its fine custom finish with light edge wear. Stock is sound with five or six small grain checks on the right side and retains most of its fine custom finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-54392 JR91 (300-500)
