PORTER TURRET RIFLE. Cal. approximately .40. The chambers are larger than the bbl, but the numbers match. SN: 158. 28” octagonal bbl, marked “ADDRESS / P.W. PORTER / NEW – YORK” and “P.W. PORTER’S / PATENT. / 1851.” on the left quarter flat of the bbl. The rear sight blade is missing. The priming mechanism has been altered. A single nipple has been screwed in the priming hole and the nipple must be capped for each shot, making this an 8-chambered single shot rifle. The cocking mechanism is not working and the revolving mechanism is binding. The cylinder cover is missing. The offset front sight is present. CONDITION: Smooth brown patina on the bbl, gray/brown on the action with light pitting in both areas. Stock has numerous dents and scratches but is solid. 4-52707 FS169 (2,000-3,000)
