EXTREMELY RARE AND IMPORTANT PILGRIM CENTURY WHITE PINE TRESTLE TABLE. With hinged top containing a large compartment beneath with double removable stretchers. The table has provision for a hanging drawer or shelf which fitted just under the compartment beneath the lid. Circa late 17th or early 18th century. This is the table shown in Wallace Nutting’s “Furniture of the Pilgrim Century”, and is illustrated on page 356 referred to as a kitchen table in pine. According to John M. Graham II in a letter written May 21, 1969, who wrote regarding this table “The wood specimen you sent has been identified as eastern white pine. Your table is probably Pennsylvania in origin…” Mr. Graham was, at this time, Vice President & Director of Collections at Colonial Williamsburg. SIZE: 30 1/2″h x 49″l x 37 1/2″w. CONDITION: Feet have been built up approx. 1 1/2″ due to wear or dry rot, the table is in original condition. 9-91456 (15,000-25,000)
