JAMES BATEMAN (English, 1893-1959) “THE SALE RING”. Oil on board interior scene of a livestock auction hall. A steer is being led by ring men in circular floor while auction goers surround in bleacher type seats. The auctioneer stands with gavel in air at one end with a large clock behind. The brick walls are adorned with posters and one steer mount. Housed in a deep gilt frame with linen liner and inner frame with glass. Appears to be unsigned but original artist label with artist, address and title on reverse. Two James Bourlet & Sons, LTD labels on reverse. One indicating a receipt from the Royal Academy. SIZE: 10-1/2” x 13-3/4”. CONDITION: Edges have some restoration and inpainting, otherwise very good. 9-97394 (2,250-2,750)
