SMITH & WESSON NEW MODEL #3 JAPANESE NAVY CONTRACT REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Russian. Blued finish, 7” keyhole ribbed bbl, 2-line address, pinned steel half moon front sight, unnumbered diamond checkered 2-pc walnut grips with a lanyard loop in the butt. An anchor and two wavy lines of the Japanese Navy are stamped on the bottom of the frame in front of the trigger guard. This revolver is part of the second order shipped to H. Aherns & Co., Yokohama, Japan on January 6, 1880. SN 9131. CONDITION: Good to very good. Retains about 40% thin blue turning plum with the balance a medium patina and some scattered moderate rust pitting. Bbl, cylinder and latch are numbered 9551. Cylinder is mostly a plum patina. Bright shiny bore with a couple spots of rust, mechanics are fine. Left grip is cracked and the right has a paint marking of some sort.
