TWO QUEEN ANNE COURTING MIRRORS. 2nd half 18th century. The first, a paint-decorated pine example; the rectangular mirrorplate within a conforming concave-molded frame, surmounted by an attached shaped and serpentine crest, the whole decorated with gold-gilt ribbon-tied flowerheads painted on the original red wash. The second example of typical form; the rectangular mirrorplate within a conforming molded and faceted surround, set with marbleized paint-decorated glass, continuing to the shaped crest with floral-decorated eglomise panel. SIZE: FIRST: 18″ overall h. x 9-1/2″ overall w. SECOND: 16″ h. x 10-1/2″ w. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Chad Richards, Camden, Maine. CONDITION: FIRST: Frame with original decorated surfaces, the mirrorplate a late 19th century replacement, some old losses and damage at top of crest, otherwise good. SECOND: In as-found condition, moldings and large quantity of glass in need of re-assembly and repair. 9-94702 (600-1,200)
