EARLY L.C. SMITH FIELD GRADE DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 7182. Fine Damascus shotgun with 28” bbls choked FULL/FULL having a tapered concave matted rib. It has dbl triggers and ejectors. The receiver and lockplates are undecorated except for the maker’s name on each side. The wood is straight-grained American walnut with black insert, coarse checkered splinter forearm and semi-pistol grip butt stock, 13-5/8” over an old Red Head pad. The left side of the buttstock at the pad is stamped in large letters, “BBV” and a small area around the butt where the pad was installed. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain 93-95% strong original Damascus pattern, faded and slightly worn over the forearm area. Lockplates retain 80-90% faded case colors and the receiver 15-20% colors in sheltered areas with the balance turned silver. Stock has small chips back of each lockplate and vice marks on each side and retains 60-70% original varnish. Forearm shows moderate to heavy wear and retains 25-30% original varnish. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bores with some plastic deposits near the chamber end. 4-52779 JR449 (500-1,000)
