EDWARD LOYAL FIELD (American, N.Y. 1856-1914) STONE FARM HOUSE. Oil on canvas depicting a stone house and archway. Signed in lower left, “Edward L. Field”, housed in contemporary antique style gilt gesso frame. The scene is believed to depict Field’s farm and studio in the Catskills or the Hudson River Valley, painted probably some time in the 1880’s or 1890’s. Ex the Estate of E. L. Field, (Tovar collection number 216). Field studied in France under Carolus-Duran. After returning to the U.S., he became a full member of New York’s prestigious Salmagundi Club. Un-stretched, laid on hardboard (but not affixed). SIZE: 7” h x10-1/4” w. CONDITION: Painting surface cracked in some places, but generally good. Frame very good. 9-27981 (2500-3500)
