SMITH & WESSON AMERICAN 1ST MODEL LARGE FRAME REVOLVER. Cal. 44 American. Blued finish, 8” keyhole ribbed bbl, and 2-pc smooth walnut grips. Lanyard loop stud is replaced with a screw. Bbl, latch and cylinder are numbered 536. Accompanied by an old cartridge belt with a rawhide laced double loop holster with a German silver concho on each loop. Also accompanied by an old John Newton & Co. small stag handled bowie in a leather sheath with nickeled brass stud decoration. SN 6278. CONDITION: As noted very good. Retains about 50% thin blue on the frame, strong in sheltered areas and 15-20% on the bbl with the balance a fine plum-brown patina. Grips are numbered to the frame and are extremely fine with a stress hairline on the inside. Fine mechanics with strong bright bore and minor light pitting. Belt, holster and knife sheath show heavy wear but are still moderately supple with crackled surface. Knife is heavily worn and has a cracked handle. 4-47915 JR23 (Anderson Collection) (3,000-5,000)
