RARE SMITH & WESSON #3 AMERICAN 1ST MODEL W/OIL HOLE LARGE FRAME REVOLVER. Cal. 44 American. Blued finish, 8” keyhole ribbed bbl, German silver front sight, 2-pc walnut grips with the outline of a cartouche on the left side. There is a small US on top of the bbl and “A” and “P” proof marks on various parts of the revolver. Bbl, latch and cylinder are numbered A2. SN 1353. CONDITION: Very good. Retains about 40% thin original blue on the frame and about 20% on the bbl with the balance a medium brown patina and scattered light pitting. Matching numbered grips that retain most of an old refinish. Bottom of the grip frame appears to have been cleaned and artificially aged. Mechanics are about excellent with bright shiny bore.
